Parting Ways

“Minis in Line” – Muntinlupa, 03 June 2017

“drive my
car,”
the song
goes:
take me
for a
ride
take me
away
before fame
before fortune
transforms
you into
a monster.

but
the words
come
a little
too late
as your
dreams
have made
you
less a
man
more a
creature
of vice
of viciousness
of ambition
vile
chasing your
fancies
on the
road
to disaster.

and one
thinks
of smoky
rooms
reeking of
drink
and songs
forlorn
and broken
sung to
indifferent crowds;
not quite
how
one thought
you’d set
the world
ablaze.

but i
keep my
own counsel
for you
would heed
would hear
me not
and i
will drive
away
from the
charred embers
of the
bridge
you chose
to burn
and leave
you
to the
doom
you wanted.
