“A Light in the Dark” – Cebu, 08 April 2017

lo
the maiden
spoke:
“a crown
of light
is my
fate;
to bring
illumination
to the
darkest
of spaces;
to bring
warmth
to the
coldest
of places.”

for even
in the
cradle
she bore
destiny’s
heavy burden
and her
heart
and her
mind
were steeled
to rule;
and great
was the
joy
and great
was the
pride
of her
mother
who ruled
the flames.

but no
crown
would she
wear
and no
scepter
would she
bear
until all
was set
to right:
for her
warrior’s heart
broke
and her
ruler’s soul
faltered
to see
the mortals
weep and
wail and
call for
succor
from the
cold menace
that rose
from the
deep.

“a throne
can wait,”
the maiden
said,
“for now
i march
to war.”
