“Runway Clear” – Cebu, 09 April 2017

too often
i feel
that you
are swayed
by the
siren song
of open
roads
and paths
not taken:
and you
never seem
to remain
in place
for very
long.

i understand
the compulsion
the drive
the wanderlust
for i
have felt
it
and i
have lived
it
longer than
you know.

but
who am
i
to put
house slippers
onto mercury’s
wingéd feet
or to
pour
his morning
coffee;
silly girl
madwoman
nutcase
screwball
that you
tell me
i am.

but
see here:
time
will come
when you
fly
and no
one
remains to
welcome you
and your
friends
will fly
away
and pass
away
and form
bonds
that include
you not –
and then
where
will you
go
and to
whom
will you
turn to?

and then
perhaps
you will
remember –
but oh
perhaps
it will
be too
late.

for
even i
have paths
to tread
and places
to go
and i
see no
point
in waiting
for you
indefinitely.
