“Just Across” – Cebu, 09 April 2017

they say
that ages
and ages
ago:
the mother
of fire
and
the father
of water
promised
the earth
that a
child
from each
of their
clans
would join
together
and peace
and balance
and harmony
would ensue.

and the
flame queen
chose
a daughter
bright in
beauty
wise in
lore;
and the
sea king
chose a
son
comely of
face
keen of
mind.

but alas
a mischief
wild
entered the
heart
of this
prince
and mayhem
he wrought
and debauchery
he sought
and grief
he caused
to mortal
ken
and he
fled
the union
to which
he was
pledged.

and grim
was the
anger
and sore
was the
wrath
of the
master
of the
waves
at the
wayward boy
but the
lady
of hearths
stayed his
hand.

“let the
children
settle this
matter,”
she said;
“let them
end
this strife.

and lo:
the daughter
of the
inferno
sought tuition
in war
and girded
herself
for battle
and off
she went
to build
a bridge
promised
to the
earth
or perish –
alas –
in trying.
