“The Path to the Water” – Cebu, 09 April 2017

down the
path
leading to
the sea:
a maiden
walks,
a maiden
ponders
the grim
reality
of solitude.

but she
stops
in her
tracks
at the
sound
of a
voice
coming from
the edge
where the
shore
meets the
sea.

alluring
luring
beckoning
beseeching
drawing
her closer
and nearer…

and she
finds
a youth
sitting upon
a rock
on the
shore
singing an
old lay
of loss
of grief
of battles
ancient
‘tween earth
and sea.

and he
turned
and she
saw eyes
as dark
as the
waves
in a
storm
and a
fish tail
where legs
ought
to be
and she
gripped
the knife
at her
waist
and she
strode
down that
path
leading to
the sea
and dared
fate
to play
its hand.
