“In Play” – Cebu, 07 April 2017

“let us
play a
game,”
he said,
laying out
the board,
pieces
of pearl
of obsidian
poised
to play.

“i am
tired
of games,”
she said,
patience
running thin
temper
rising fast,
“and your
schemes
and your
pranks
and those
words
subtly barbed
always lethal.”

and they
stare
at each
other,
an impasse
reached
a gambit
locked
in stalemate.

and
in anger
she flips
the board
scattering the
pieces
of pearl
of obsidian
refusing
to play.
