“Corpse Flower” – Natalie Shau, c. 2004-2008

in the
valley of
shadows
sleeps a
prince
of pale
of fragile
beauty;
curséd youth
frozen
in time
like a
dragonfly
caught in
amber.

caught by
his own
folly,
broken by
his own
vices:
enspelled to
sleep,
dulcet voice
silenced
by magicks
dark and
sinister.

there he
slumbers
in his
prison
of crimson
roses
and ebony
thorns
hidden from
the world
until the
day
some soldiering
maid
wanders in
through the
mists
and breaks
the spell
and breaks
him
to her
will.
