“Still Life: Bowl of Herbs” – Alabang, 31 July 2016

the subtle
fragrance
of herbs
skirting on
the edges
of memory,
subconscious
unfolding awake
at the
scent
at the
perfume
wafting in.

but
it’s not
enough
to dispel
the scent
of tobacco
of soap
of uneasy
sleep
of late
night
of early
dawn
light barely
breaking
of empty
streets
of your
face
of your
skin
in close
proximity
with me
with mine.

the green
the verdant
scent
perfumes the
air
chases away
the afternoon
gloom…

but not
strong enough
to chase
away
the memory
of you.
