“Turkish Delights” – Makati, 25 May 2016

a taste
of those
far-away
lands
to which
i’ve never
gone:
the honeyed
sweetness
melting on
my tongue
calling to
mind
arid deserts
baking
‘neath the
sun,
blue skies
green seas
the nip
of salt
of citrus
in the
air.

and my
feet
yearn to
dance
passionate tangos
in argentine
cafés
or fiery
flamencos
in gypsy
firelight;
and these
eyes
want to
see
beyond these
cubicle walls
and look
upon sights
fabled
fantasised
rhapsodised
about by
poets
through the
ages.

given
half a
chance
after this
taste
of the
exotic:
i would
run,
i would
fly,
i would
never
come back.
