“Noble Scarlet” – Bulacan, 27 May 2016

a queen
fair of
face
mighty in
magic
fought
a battle
‘gainst ancient
‘gainst arcane
foes / to save
to shield
a land
golden
glorious
godly.

blow
for bloody
blow
she struck,
gash
for bleeding
gash;
fighting a
war
that the
naysayers
wept over,
a war
they said
the queen
would not
could not
win.

but grim
and grey
as their
words were,
her armies
took heart
took faith
never faltered:
for where
the queen’s
blood fell
there grew
blossom
of brightest
of deepest
scarlet.

onward
ever onward
they marched
they fought
they conquered
till the
dark evil
was routed,
its massed
forces
all dead
by blades
of light.

and they
raised
the queen
triumphant
radiant
proud
and laid
a posy
of red
flowers
in her
hands.

and all
was good,
and all
was well.
