“Two Masks” – Makati, 19 April 2016

two sides
to every
story;
two sides
to everything:
and we
in our
blindness
in our
ignorance
in our
fear
hear only
one
and shun
the other.

alienating
they who
love us,
building a
wall
around our
hearts,
setting blinders
in our
heads
that we
may only
see
what we
want
but not
what we
need
to see.

and we
drive
those who
love us
away;
and surround
ourselves
with slavish
sycophants
groupies
fanatics
hangers-on
who only
love
the false
fronts
the game
face
the star
the legend…

but not
but never
the heart
the mind
the soul
the person
behind the
glamour.

two sides
to every
story,
two sides
to everything:
how long
can we
stay blind
to the
big picture,
how long
can we
stay dead
to the
darker side
of us?
