Only Death Remains

“The Quietly Trickling Fountain” – Makati, 14 April 2016

tell me:

tell me
why
the good
the kind
the gentle
are taken
and those
who walk
in the
darkness
still remain.

tell me
why
the cold
the cruel
the arrogant
traipse these
streets
heads high
proud
brazen
remorseless.

death,
o death:
so unkind
so indiscriminate;
ending
what shouldn’t
be ending,
snuffing out
life
extinguishing light –
plunging us
into darkness
into despair.

there is
no justice,
there is
no fairness;
only death.
