Sing Me an Old, Familiar Song

“Drop a Dime, Play a Tune” – Manila, 27 March 2016

sing me
the song
you sang
on a
long ago
evening
when we
were children
and we
cared little
for the
world
and its
woes.

sing me
that old
that wistful
tune
from the
lads of
liverpool
as the
sun sets
and the
sky
dons its
cloak of
velvet blue
and i
will close
my smarting
eyes
and remember
when i
lifted my
gaze
to a
star-filled
sky
so unaware,
alas,
of the
years
of the
pain
of the
distance
between us
to come.
