“Altar Alight” – Paranaque, 23 March 2016

in the
stillness
of this
summer night,
heads bowed
in prayer;
lips moving
silently
soundlessly
solemnly
as the
moon
in the
skies outside
shimmers
with its
vernal glow,
quiet witness
to deepest
fervor,
mortal supplication.

petitions
and pleas
rising and
falling
as one
voice
after another
makes its
prayer;
submitting to
divine will –
some willingly,
others reluctantly;
some daring
and chiding
even threatening
mutiny
rebellion
apostasy –
on this
night
of nights.
