“Bric-a-Brac” – Iloilo, 29 July 2012

i sit
among
the old
the familiar
things
of youth
and sigh
but i
weep not.

i read
through the
letters:
missives sent
penned in
inks –
sober black
bright blue
cheeky red
an occasional
quirky tome
in green –
and i
think of
those young
hands
scribbling each
word:
all grown
old,
some grown
cold
in the
silence
of early
graves
and –
if i
but focus –
i can
almost hear
the bubbly
the breathless
the boisterous
voices
behind each
note…
and wonder:
what sobered
us,
what silenced
us,
what pulled
us
into seriousness?

i sit
among my
memories
and wonder:
what went
wrong,
what went
right;
and wonder
still:
where does
one go
from here?
