Untitled Piece by Ramon Orlina at the Tower Club – Makati, 09 March 2016

seeing
as if
for the
first time:
a clear
picture
of how
of why
things
are as
they are.

and i
feel foolish
and i
feel fooled
that things
could reach
such a
pretty pass;
and tears
are shed,
and words
are said
are shouted
are written
are flailed
about
like some
weapon
of yore –
guaranteed
to bruise
to maim
to harm
to kill
if need
be.

but i
withdraw
and keep
a distance
as i
see
the big
picture
the whole
show
the entire
business –
sordid or
otherwise –
we’ve made
of our
lives.

i can
laugh
about this
someday…
but –
for now –
at least
my mind
my heart
my soul
are clear.
