“On the Bench” – Makati, 15 February 2016

i will

not

just sit

here

and watch

you

fall apart

come undone

crash and

burn;

ask not

why

for i

know

you’ll mock

my answer.

i cannot

wait here

in vain,

wait here

for nothing;

time

continues its

inexorable march,

and the

seasons

forge on

relentlessly –

and the

first flush

of youth

is passing

away

and we

see

silver threads

streaking

through the

ebony

on our

heads.

and though

you laugh

you sneer

you shake

your head

at what

you call

my folly,

i will

not sit

here

and watch

you turn

from man

to mess;

laugh

if you

must

laugh

if you

want to

but the

heart

knows what

it wants

and it

only wants

you.
