“A City of Lights” – Makati, 25 November 2015

they can

light up

the sky;

illuminate

the night

and rival

the stars.

they can

bewitch me

with the

sight

of the

metropolis

outlined in

neon glow

as the

night-scape

comes to

life

with light

with smoke

with maddening

cacophony.

but i

stand

in the

middle

of the

sound,

of the

fury;

knowing too

well

you do

not miss

the madness

the mayhem

the mess

of the

urban jungle.

not for

you

the traffic

the slow

crawl

the hours

wasted

in waiting;

nor for

you

the angry

muttering

the waspish

meanness

the unending

frustration.

i know

you relish

the sea

breeze

the way

the wind

batters

the mountainside;

the winding

of roads

not taken;

and the

city

you miss

not.

but:

i miss

you.
