“Hacia Acuario” – Remedios Varo, 1961

rereading

old messages

from days

gone by,

of the

many

times that

i fled

to you

in tears

and how

you

chided me

for having

no faith

no spirit

no nerve

no belief

in what

i could

do.

and i

wonder still

how and

why

we are –

we remain

friends

after all

this time,

after all

we’ve gone

through.

but i

regret

none of

it;

i remain

forever

in your

debt

for the

wisdom,

for the

brusqueness,

for the

kindness

that have

time and

again

pulled me

back –

pulled me

away

from death

by my

own hand.
