“Crabapples” – Muntinlupa, 04 September 2015

the sharp

sourness

of the

crabapple

lingers in

my mouth;

my lips

pucker

at the

tartness

that acidic

tang

that burns

my palate

like salt

rubbed into

wounds.

and my

lips

twist into

a grimace:

reflecting

on past

sins

and faults

and hurts

received

inflicted

averted

diverted.

i nibble

i gnaw

right down

to the

core

and smile

triumphant:

if i

could manage

the bitterness

of fruit,

then i

could master

that of

life.
