“A Drink for One” – Alabang, 15 August 2015

table

for one

where i

can watch

the ebb

the flow

of humanity;

the hundreds

of little

passion-plays

acted out

by those

mummers

hiding behind

one façade

or another.

sipping my

drink

and considering

a story:

early morning

conversations,

backseat confessionals

mutual confidences

uttered in

passing;

solitude

in the

midst

of a

crowd;

a feeling

of not

quite –

never quite –

fitting in.

and i

catch

an odd

glance

or two:

judged unjustly

by critics

who know

nothing

of my

struggle,

inner turmoil

threatening

to break

me.

so i

sip

my drink;

grab the

check;

tip the

barkeep

fairly;

stealthily slip

out of

the pub

into the

night-shrouded

streets…

another verse

to write;

another tale

to tell.
