Anything and Everything

"Still Life: Coffee in the Cake" - Muntinlupa, 08 August 2015
“Still Life: Coffee in the Cake” – Muntinlupa, 08 August 2015

i will:

bake

every cake

in the

book,

fill all

the empty

biscuit jars,

make jam,

bake bread,

stitch a

sampler

or two;

clean the

house,

make repairs,

move out –

move in

when i

can.

go dancing

some nights,

stay in

on others,

drive aimlessly

sans direction

to parts

unknown;

have a

drink,

talk to

friends –

but it

won’t

be the

same;

it won’t

feel

the same.

i will

get snowed

under

by paperwork,

frazzled by

deadlines,

be driven

half-mad

by stress…

but i

will not

weep,

will not

cry.

i will

flutter

a handkerchief

with the

rest of

our crowd;

i will

make jokes

laugh hard

smile

all the

while

until either

you

or i

step out

that door…

and all

bets

are off;

the mask

slips

falls

shatters;

and i

stare

unseeing at

the world

around me

and flee

and break

and weep

as you

leave.
