even the
strongest
fall to
the inexorable
ravages
of time
and –
too soon –
silver threads
shimmer
even on
the darkest
heads.
even trees
tall and
sturdy and
lofty
are uprooted
by the
winds
or by
quivering
shaking
quaking
earth
or cut
down
by impertinent
axe
by unmerciful
saw.
the lion
loses its
teeth
the eagle’s
wings
falter in
flight;
and the
mighty
fall
fail
die
as every
one of
us
eventually will.
for only
change
is constant
while time
marches
ever onward
and we
wretched mortals
that we
are
can only
blindly
follow.
