Shut(tered) Up

From the “Dream II” Series by Natalie Shau, date unknown

you

once told

me

of the

beauty

you see

in darkness;

one such

conversation

where i

felt a

pang

in my

heart

when you

spoke

so flippantly

of death

and how

i thought

you

saw it

as a

joke,

jesting

lightly,

lightheartedly –

as if

it were

nothing

to you.

and yet:

when you

grieve

the pain

lingers;

i hear

it in

your voice

when you

speak

sing

sigh –

and yes,

even your

laughter

sounds forced,

sounds pained;

overkill

to the

nth degree.

and i

wonder

what can

i do;

what do

i do

with you

when –

truth be

told –

you won’t

let anyone

in.
