“Blank Sheet” – Muntinlupa, July 2015

there is

a distressing

emptiness:

the page

stays blank,

the pen

lies still.

and i

lay flat

on my

back

staring into

darkness

my head

hurting

from the

length

of the

day;

its stresses

its cares

compounded

by the

nightly exodus

of exhausted

souls

into southern

suburbia.

half-asleep

thoughts muddled

indistinct

amorphous

ephemeral –

blink once

they’re gone –

unlikely

to be

committed

to paper.

and i

shake my

head

in dismay

at the

fruitlessness

of the

day

and pull

the quilt

over me

shutting out

the world;

good night.
