Summer Morning

"Sanctuary" - Muntinlupa, 29 June 2015
“Sanctuary” – Muntinlupa, 29 June 2015

there is

hardly

a stirring

of wind;

no breeze

blows

today

in the

soft

light of

morning.

the air

is calm –

too calm,

too still;

even the

crowing

of the

cockerels

sounds tired

sounds weary

worn out

by late

summer’s

heat.

the yeasted

fragrance

of bread

baking

wafts through

this kitchen

as the

dawn chorus

sings to

break in

a new

day.

water boils,

coffee brews,

breakfast

is considered

is cooked

is consumed.

the trundling

of cars

of vans

motorbikes

echoes in

the distance;

signs of

life.

there is

the murmur

the whispering

of sleepy

voices;

awake, awake

in the

soft light

of morning.
