“Rain in the Fields” – Malolos, Bulacan; 2012

grey skies

overhead

remind me

of times

past:

schooldays

long gone;

rainy afternoons

spent lost

in thought,

applying pen

to paper

in feverish

reverie.

schoolgirl’s

foible,

schoolgirl’s

folly:

listening to

static-riddled

broadcasts,

inclement weather

threatening

to send

us all

home;

water rising

in the

streets,

our school

an island

amidst the

tempest.

lost in

thought;

forehead pressed

against

misted glass:

words unsaid,

things undone;

everything in

limbo

till the

sky clears

till the

streets dry

till the

time comes

when we

children

are all

grown up

and the

storm

and the

squall

has passed.
