Suffer Through Supper

“Place Setting for One” – Alabang, 30 May 2015

solitary meal:

no company

save for

one’s thoughts;

everything tastes

bitter,

everything feels

like ashes

in one’s

mouth.

a biting

a hurting

a searing

loneliness

threatening

to kill

with every

mouthful;

a grim

specter

that ruins

the flavor

of even

the finest

meals.

angrily

i choke

it all

down:

every crumb,

every morsel;

wishing

that each

bite

could fill

the gaping

the starving

the widening

chasm

within me.
