“Mummy, I’m Flying!” – Little Tokyo, 01 May 2015

you never

let go

of my

hand

till you

knew

i could

manage

on my

own;

till you

knew

i could

fly

well enough

on my

own.

yours

was the

first smile

these eyes

saw:

first sign

of life

outside;

there have

been

other smiles

over time –

some kind

some cruel

some sincere

some not so –

but yours

remains

the sweetest

in memory.

hands to warm

in coldest

weather,

words to scold,

words to soothe,

hands to stay

even this

most stubborn

of hearts

on a

good path,

on the

right track.

and now

we are

older

i take

umbrage

at those

who seek

to malign

you

even at

this late

hour

of your

life

just as

i think

you did

over me

in the

early years

of mine.

we have

each other:

i remain

child of

your heart,

blood of your blood

part of you

part of me.

if the

time

ever comes

and i

have

my own

in my

womb

in my

arms

i pray

i could be

every inch

as good a

mother

as you.
