Unwanted

“Plums and Nectarines” – Muntinlupa, 05 March 2015

too often

i wonder

why

those

of us

with

so much

to give

are dropped

off at

the wayside

like so

much

unwanted

baggage.

why

is it

that we

offer

the wine

the song

the first-fruits

of our

hearts

but we

are shunned

are reviled

are kept

away

at arm’s length

if need be.

are we

ugly

because we

don’t look

like everyone

else;

are we

stupid

for not

thinking

like everyone

else;

are we

naïve

for not

believing

in the

dictated

misguided

bigoted

unsympathetic norms

like everyone

else?

we pour

out wine

but they

drink

canal sludge;

we share

the succulence

of peaches

of plums

but they

sup upon

dead twigs.

sometimes

it is

easier

to think

that this

world

is better

off

without us

who are

different –

but,

then again,

where would

we all

be

if we

were all

the same?
