Rulebreaker

“Morning Sun” – South Luzon Expressway / Skyway, 2011

don’t stare

at the

sun

they say

don’t play

in the

rain

don’t break

the rules

don’t be

silly

don’t try

to be

different

lest you

be shunned –

why does

it always

have to

be ‘don’t’?

why does

it always

have to

be no?

why do we

suppress

emotions deep

sentiments strong –

and lie

and hide

and play

innocent –

when

confronted?

i would

rather

stare up

go blind

because i

dared

to defy

convention;

i would

rather

be shunned

than be

one of

a herd.

bravely, bravely

i turn

my eyes

skyward

stare up

at the

sun

and gain

clarity:

that things

can be

different…

you just

need

to be

brave enough

to

look up.
