and so:

about bygone

days

and flown-away

hours,

of childish

whims,

of wilted

flowers…

planted in

memory:

a sketched

rose

rough lines

pen-strokes

on scratch;

trumpery trifle –

a boy’s

fancy,

a girl

impressed

and wishing

and hoping

and yearning

for the

real thing –

velvet petals

wounding thorns

elusive fragrance

and all.

but children

grow up,

the world

moves on;

boys become

bards

trekking this

earth

enriching it

with heartfelt

song.

girls become

wordsmiths

wandering wraiths

speaking arcane

truths

in shadow.

paths divide

paths intersect

and one

wonders

about fresher

flowers

and more

spontaneous

verses

when next

we meet.
