The Story Queen

“Scheherazade and Sultan Schariar” – Ferdinand Keller, 1880

scheherazade, scheherazade…

lady of tales

weaver most sweet:

tell me a story,

tell me true

of myth, of legend

of hero bold

of gentle maiden.

teach me

to escape

the mundane earth

teach me

to fly!

borne aloft

by wings of

song

by breeze

of fable.

teach me

the thousand

ways of

speaking;

the thousand ways of seeking –

a multitude

of ways

to see

the world…

even when

one’s eyes

are closed

even when

one is deep

in slumber.
