Small Escapes

"A Fairytale Before Sleep" - Alessandro Della Pietra, 2012
“A Fairytale Before Sleep” – Alessandro Della Pietra, 2012

dive between

the sheets,

the pages

and disappear:

escape yourself

when reality gets

too much,

too close

for comfort –

when the claws

enclose your

throat,

when the fangs

pierce your

flesh.

reality is the

monster;

reality is the

bane;

the bogeyman

in the night;

the wellspring

of your

pain.

dive between

the covers…

cloth or paper –

does it matter?

written words

marking pure

white

page after page –

noise against

the silence,

rage against

the mockery.

no shadow,

no boggart,

no night-thief

can prevail

against

the reading

heart,

the learning

mind.

dive between

the covers;

soar between

the pages…

and choose

your truth;

build your

realities

from there.
