Coffee and Conversations

“Coffee for Two” (Photo Credit: The Time Out London Blog)

i went

through all

our

conversations:

reflected

on things

said,

done,

undone,

half-done.

we were

children

at play;

but playtime

ended

abruptly.

games

unfinished,

dolls thrown

away,

hopscotch pattern

washed out

by the rain.

paths parted,

ways diverged –

both taking

roads untaken

by cowards;

not many

would follow –

indeed,

who’d be

rash enough

to follow? –

where we’ve

trod.

but here

we are:

cups steaming

in hand,

laughing,

teasing,

talking

after an

eternity

of silence.

you shoved

me out

of the

darkness i’d

foolishly

chosen;

minced no

words,

accepted no

excuses –

you who

went through

hell and back.

i know

not

where we’ll

go from

here.

for now,

this moment,

this time,

friendship

is enough.
